HS Track Meet Entries - Milesplit vs Baumspage (2024)

We host an invitational. Our AD just emailed us "In talking with the timing company for our invite, we are going to use Ohio Mile Split since most schools/meets are starting to go there instead of baumspage. I got access to our team account last week and we’ll look to use it for all meets going forward to make it easier on everyone."

Do any coaches here have experience entering meet lineups using milesplit vs baumspage?

Where did he get the line "most schools are starting to go there instead of baumspage"?

I know GHG Timing has switched to milesplit http://ghgtiming.com/milesplitinfo.html

Seems like pretty much everything is pushed through Milesplit now. I find it much more user friendly than Baumspage.

Overall, I thought the nicest interface was the system finishtiming was using right before they jumped on the milesplit bandwagon. Milesplit is ok, but I find myself clicking back and forth between screens a lot.

All OHSAA Track and Cross Country Tournaments will be using MileSplit.

I'm partial to baumspage, but potentially, this could be a good thing. Perhaps Milesplit can become a tool to eliminate the practice of coaches overzealously seeding their athletes in order to gain some type of favorable heat or lane assignment for district prelims. That practice is becoming rarer, but it still happens on occasion.

I just noticed that baumspage is currently showing no links to the district meets. The problem there is if you click on any year in the district column other than 2021, it directs you to use the district meet link for the site that you want to view. If you want to look at district meet results from 2012-2019, you'll have to play around with some URLs. I didn't look at the link to archived results to see if the material from before 2012 is still accessible.

Yes, Baumspage still has the links to the district/regional/state meets back to 2001. However, a few of them are broken links. Some are fixable by tweaking the #s in the URL bar, however. Some are not.

They never automatically pulled them. It takes a person to go find them and add them to the system. It used to take a week or so for that process to start. So I am guessing they just have not starting pulling them as it is easier to do them in groups.
If anyone has results from a meet they want added to milesplit all they have to do is send the results (preferred in html file from hytek) to
Results@milesplit.com
They will then create the meet on milesplit and add the results to it and add to the rankings.

Use the "Level" and "Grade" pull down menus to toggle to the listings you want.

I agree. OHSAA should provide for a mechanism without having to subscribe to another service. However, OHSAA is notorious for various reasons.

All of us that've been around this sport for decades have seen the unfortunate false seeding times entered by some coaches. Some are based on previous season's bests, some are based on relay splits, and some are just plain b.s. Regardless, coaches who do so not only hurt other athletes & their support systems, but also their own kids and especially their own reputations. I feel for you and others on this one, Pyscho_Dad.

False performances are one of the reasons that statisticians like myself, Lancermania, and some others on here are so strict when it comes to documenting performances for historical purposes. I still come across obviously bad data from time-to-time that even gets soaked up into MileSplit & AthleticNet. I remember I found a girls' indoor triple jump mark sometime in the last couple years in one of

' publication HS Track that proved to be completely bogus when you looked at the body of that girl's other marks. I contacted Jack Shepard @ T&FN, alerted him to the situation, and he made the correction in his database.
